Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
