New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
