The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach a different club within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations must arise to draw him back to management, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories thus frequently a very good mood in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. You don’t have to worry over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences at the club. The forward died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
