The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and the video site.
