The President Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Military Personnel to White House

President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.

Presidential Call

The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Public Reaction

Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.

Legal Actions and Government Changes

Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The event prompted the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop providing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with honor, per the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
