The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
